Welcome!

“For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them.”

Since March of this year, these words from Jesus in Matthew 18:20 have taken on new significance and power for us here at Calvary. With COVID-19, our familiar frames of reference and established ways of doing things were all thrown into the proverbial blender.

This has undoubtedly been a difficult time, but COVID-19 has also revealed the essence of what it means to gather in Jesus’ name: that the character of our gathering is more important than the form of our gathering – that discipleship calls forth our resiliency and creativity and compassion – that the church is not just a place we go, but a people living out a vision of God’s love in Christ’s name. These are deep truths that now shape the next stage of our journey together: the reopening for in-person worship.

We are open for our Sunday morning celebration services on Sunday mornings. The service is from 10:30 am – 11:30 am and  takes place in the New Life Centre (gym).

You must pre-register for the service each week either online here (see registration tab), or click on the link on our Facebook page.

You may also call the Calvary church office 519-376-4179 to register. If you do call and leave a message, please leave your name, the number of people attending and your phone number.

Note: If you register, and then are unable to attend – there is no need to advise us.

We have adopted the guidance of our province and the Grey Bruce Health Unit’s recommendations for places of worship reopening during Covid 19.

This is very good news! We have developed our protocols and all the specific details for what going back into our building will look like.

While we will be following the best advice to ensure that in-person worship is a positive and safe experience, the reality is that each of us will need to gauge our own comfort level and set our own timeline for return to church. Please know that whatever timeline feels right for you, your church is dedicated to supporting you. For this reason, in addition to in-person worship on Sunday mornings, we will also be offering a Facebook live online service that will also be posted and available to view later at your convenience.

As I’m sure you can appreciate, all of our plans for the resumption of in-person worship are dependant on the directives of our public health officials – if things change in our city, we will respond and adapt.

 Yours in Christ Jesus,

Your Calvary Elders & Board

We encourage you to continue to care for one another, your neighbours and friends in need. Pick up the phone and see if our elderly and those with health issues are ok or if they need anything.

If you are in need, or know of someone who is, please email info@calvaryemc.com or call the church office 519-376-4179 and leave a message.

We do have a Facebook page “Calvary EMC Owen Sound,” https://www.facebook.com/Calvary-EMC-Owen-Sound  and for members a private group page “Calvary Church.” Please check us out, as we post daily with devotionals, prayer requests and updates.

We have had folks inquiring about their tithes and offerings during this time if you are not attending our services.  On your computer, to the right you’ll see  a link to Canada Helps (on other devices, scroll to the bottom of this page). It is an online service for our congregants to contribute their offerings. Calvary has been using this service for quite a while now. It is very secure and easy to use. Please note: Canada Helps takes a fee of 3.5%. You still get a receipt for, say, $100, but the church receives $96.50.  Please see our private Facebook page Calvary Church for alternative arrangements.
